ABOUT

My name is Carol

I have been involved in the recycling industry for most of my working life, but have also had a range of other jobs. I have an HND in pattern cutting and used to make clothing and do alterations for customers as I enjoyed sewing and creativity. I have also worked as a carer; visiting people at their homes, working in a care home and providing meals on wheels. The job I enjoyed the most was working for a scrap store called Grumpy in Salford. This job really appealed to me as it involved reusing materials that usually would have been thrown away. I would visit schools, Surestart and outside events in parks and zoos taking along scrap materials to suite the theme. Workshops would usually have a theme such as Easter or Christmas and create kites, wall posters or musical instruments. Sadly, Grumpy closed down about 15 years ago. However, I would like to offer workshops with my old ideas or new idea; teddy beds. I have all the basic resources at hand to assemble the base teddy bed as well many scrap materials to use for decoration, but I encourage children to bring in some scrap materials they want to use especially for their teddy / cuddly toy / small doll bed. The beds are easy to make and can be as simple or complicated as you like.

Workshops

Available Monday to Saturday

Workshops are £20 per hour at a minimum of 2 hours (Can be split into 2 x 1 hour sessions). Workshops will have teddy beds and bedtime routine cards provided (based on average class size of 30). I will also provide some scrap materials, but I would encourage children to bring in some of their own materials.  Add £20 one class + 2 hours/£40 = £60 £35 two classes + 2 x 1 hour/£40 = £75 I can only do local schools within a 10 mile radius at present. Lesson Plan I can provide materials and plans for you to do a session by yourself. Cardboard beds are very easy to construct. You can choose whichever way to decorate them to fit the children's skill levels. Younger children may just wish to colour in or put stickers on the beds, whereas older children could be more creative and add extra bits and pieces. Lessons would be suitable for children from 2-9 years old. There is also a bedtime routine card along with the beds that can be filled in by the children to encourage a healthy bedtime plan.
